Invisalign vs. Braces
Discover the advantages of Invisalign in Edgewater, NJ.
Possibly the #1 reason why patients choose Invisalign over braces: They are clear! Aligners are far less noticeable than metal braces, helping you feel confident throughout treatment.
Unlike traditional orthodontics, you can remove your clear aligners. This means you can brush, floss, eat, and drink as you normally would – making it easier to keep your teeth clean.
Invisalign treatment is often faster than traditional orthodontics! The average treatment time is 12 to 18 months. So, just think, if you start this week, your teeth could be perfectly straight by this time next year or sooner!
The cost of Invisalign is comparable to braces. In fact, you may even save money by needing less appointments. If you have dental insurance, your treatment may be covered.
Invisalign is made of SmartTrack material, which seamlessly fits on your teeth and is not susceptible to breaking. With braces, there’s always the risk of breaking a bracket or having a wire poke you.
Invisalign technology has significantly advanced in recent years, allowing it to treat a variety of cases, including overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, crowded teeth, and teeth with gaps. Both teens and adults can use this treatment!

Have a Question?
- Who is a candidate?
Our Edgewater orthodontist and dentist offer Invisalign treatment to adults and teenagers.
If you want to fix any of the following with your smile, then you are likely a candidate for Invisalign:
- Overbite: Upper front teeth close over the bottom teeth
- Underbite: Lower teeth protrude past the upper teeth
- Crossbite: Upper and lower jaw don’t align
- Gap Teeth: Spaces between your teeth
- Open Bite: Top and bottom teeth don’t meet
- Crowded Teeth: Not enough room for your teeth to fit
To confirm if you are a candidate, please schedule a consultation at our Edgewater dental office.
- How much does it cost?
According to Opens new tab to the Healthline website Healthline, the average cost of Invisalign varies between $3,000 to $7,000. This can vary based on your case, dentist, location, etc.
At Smiles on the Hudson, we offer multiple payment options and plans, and accept dental insurance. Most dental insurances that include orthodontics will cover Invisalign.

- How long is the treatment process?
The average Invisalign treatment time is 12 to 18 months. However, it’s important to remember treatment time can vary based on factors like the severity of your case and your compliance with wearing your aligners.
The only way to find out exactly how long Invisalign treatment will take you is to schedule a consultation with our Edgewater dentists.
Once you come in for a consultation and we determine you are an Invisalign candidate, it will take up to four weeks to receive your custom-made aligners.
From there, you will be expected to wear your aligner 20-22 hours a day. You will visit us roughly every four to six weeks for a check-up and to receive new sets of aligners.
- How painful is Invisalign?
Invisalign is not painful. When you wear a new set of aligners, your teeth may feel tender for the first few days. This is because your teeth are adjusting to the slight pressure from the new aligners, which are gradually moving your teeth.
If your teeth are tender, it’s best to avoid hard, crunchy food, which may make the feeling worse. You can also treat discomfort with over-the-counter medication like Advil.
If you have a question or concern about your aligners, please call our office so we can help you: (201) 941-0088.
- What happens at end of treatment?
Once you and your Invisalign dentist determine you have reached the end of your Invisalign journey, we will provide you with a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting out of place. Retainers are typically worn while you sleep (unless otherwise instructed).
For the finishing touch on your brand new smile, you may want to professionally whiten your teeth.
At Smiles on the Hudson, we offer Zoom! teeth whitening, which can whiten your smile up to eight shades lighter in just one visit! Plus, you can maintain your white smile year-round with our take-home whitening kits.
