Oral Hygiene

Oral Hygiene

As a dental hygienist I can’t stress enough on my patients about practicing good oral hygiene.  A proper dental hygiene can not only prevent bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease but it will improve your overall health. Mainly, it can ensure you are having teeth for the rest of your life. Multiple studies show that people with healthy teeth live longer! Having an unhealthy mouth can increase your risks of serious health problems such as heart attacks, stroke, poorly controlled diabetes and pre-term labor. In addition, current researches show that good oral health, healthy teeth, gums and bones can prevent viruses from entering your body. After all, the mouth is the main entrance to your body. It is important and easy to maintain a healthy mouth by following these simple steps:
Bed

Don’t go to bed without brushing your teeth.

  Oral hygiene

Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft head toothbrush.

Oral Hygiene

Floss daily…. Don’t allow difficulties to stop you.

  Oral Hygiene

Don’t neglect your tongue! Scrape.

  Oral Hygiene

Replace toothbrush every three to four months.

Consider using a mouthwash.

Drink plenty of water.

Keep a healthy diet, avoiding in between snacks. Reduce your sugar intake.

And the most important step - schedule regular dental checkups! You should come to see your hygienist at least twice a year and or 3 times a year depending on your periodontal conditions. Very Truly Yours, Carolina O. of Smiles on the Hudson dental practice in Edgewater, New Jersey
